65% of the desilting work is complete: MBMC Chief
The desilting work of Mira-Bhayander City which usually starts before the pre-monsoon showers has already begun. MBMC began the desilting work from the first week of April and will make sure the work gets completed before or by 10th June.
Chief of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) Dilip Dhole has checked and reviews the progress of ongoing desilting work of nullahs in the twin-city. Along with additional civic chief Dr Sambhaji Panpatte and City Engineer- Deepak Khambit, Dhole has been doing inspection rounds at regular intervals.
Dhole said though June 10 is the deadline for completion, more than 65 percent of the desilting has been completed. While the work is expected to be finished on time, certain shortcomings were brought to the notice of the sanitary inspectors and concerned contractor who has to shoulder responsibility arising in the monsoon period.
Some private companies are a part of this project and are rendering their services. There are about 150 nullahs (major and minor) in Mira-Bhayander city that measure up close to 240 km. Several allegations are being raised like workers' exploitation by not giving the right and decided wage, manipulative clock-based pricing structure, safety equipment, etc. It seems this could be another money-minting scheme.
But MBMC refutes these claims and is conducting transparent business. They have maintained a manual logbook record, video-record real-time on-duty workforce, on-site supervision and desilting process before and after photos.
