Narendra Mehta has officially taken oath as the new MLA of Mira Bhayandar.
Mehta emerged victorious with a significant lead, securing approximately 144,000 votes. The runner-up, Muzaffar Hussain, fell short by a margin of 60,000 votes, further highlighting Mehta's strong support.
Residents of Mira Bhayandar hold high expectations for Mehta, especially given that Geeta Jain, the previous MLA, struggled to deliver effective services. Mehta is widely recognized for his initiatives, including introducing a metro service to the area and a 24-hour water supply expected within the next six months. He was also instrumental in developing cement roads, efforts that others later claimed credit for.
The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) volunteers in Mira Bhayandar committed wholeheartedly to this election, treating it as a personal mission. In the lead-up to the vote, Mehta hosted over 220 meetings in just seven months, ensuring his message reached various communities, including the Marathi, Marwadi, Gujarati, North Indian, and minority groups. This widespread engagement contributed to his impressive victory, especially as it was a critical moment for Geeta Jain and Muzaffar Hussain.
One major factor in Jain's defeat was her history of false promises. In contrast, Mehta has outlined several key assurances in his new role: he will work towards providing a continuous water supply, initiating metro services promptly, constructing a cricket stadium for local youth, and developing the Mira Road West region into a commercial hub to create job opportunities among other things
Mehta has already begun acting on these commitments, with many initiatives progressing rapidly. Soon Municipal corporation election is expected, and a new tug-of-war can be seen in Mira Bhayander.
