Fashion brand Shein to re-enter the Indian market
Shein, one of the top fashion brands that were active in the Indian market until June 2020 has decided to re-enter the retail market. Shein stopped their distribution services after the Indian government banned several Chinese apps post the Galwan clashes in Ladakh.
Online fashion brand Shein will make a return in India after close to three years of ban. In partnership with Reliance Retail, Shein has recently sealed the deal and will operate through RIL's subsidiary and recapture its market share. Reliance Retail will set up offline stores and even make a comeback in the online platform.
As part of its partnership arrangement with Reliance Retail, Shein is likely to source the fabric material for their global and local manufacturing operations from India. Surprisingly, this partnership has received approval from the Indian government. Shein enjoyed huge popularity in the Indian market segment for its fashionable and reasonable clothing until the 2020 Chinese apps ban. The partnership benefits both the concerned parties as Shein gets the opportunity to tap the young consumer base in India, whereas Reliance Retail can make use of the global brand's recognition and technology.
Established in the year 2008 in China by Chris Xu, Shein has gained the top spot in the global fashion marketplace, providing customers with low-priced, stylish attire. Though Shein was banned in June 2020 along with 59 Chinese apps, their products were available in the online market through Amazon.
