Bollywood personalities who made an appearance at Cannes Film Festival 2023

 Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan inaugurated the India Pavilion at the 76th Cannes Film Festival. The event was graced by many Bollywood personalities like Madhur Bhandarkar, Manushi Chillar, Sara Ali Khan, Khushbu Sundar, Esha Gupta, Vijay Varma, Guneet Monga, and so on.

Murugan emphasised on India’s 'timeless tradition of storytelling' is being recognized globally. “You will not find too many Hollywood films these days that do not have names of Indians in the credits, especially in the VFX and animation departments." He added that “the foundations of our creative economy are so strong that India is well placed to become the world’s leading content creator”.

At the Cannes film festival opening day, executive director of the Cannes Marche du Film, Guillaume Esmiol acknowledged that Indian cinema become more connected to the global movie business, which makes the country very important for the festival.

India’s ambassador to France and the Principality of Monaco, Jawed Ashraf in his keynote address said “Cinema is intricately, and inextricably, linked to the lives of the people of India. Our movie industry is doing a job that diplomats are meant to do: making the world dance to India’s tune.”

Sara Ali Khan wore an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga on day one which gained both praise and criticism for her traditional choice. Sara said, “I think as a nation maybe we are not doing enough, and we should be even more proud and vocal of the culture that we do have, that we should be able to bring to the rest of the world. Cinema and art transcend language, regions, nationalities.”
