Gadar 2 box office collection Day 20: Sunny Deol film makes almost eight times its budget, mints Rs 475 crore
Gadar 2 is a period action drama film directed and produced by Anil Sharma, and written by Shaktimaan Talwar. It is a sequel to the 2001 film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The film cast includes Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, and Simrat Kaur. Released 17 years after the first film, Gadar 2 follows Tara Singh as he searches for his imprisoned son during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Gadar 2 had a theatre release on 11 August 2023. The film earned over ₹336 crore worldwide in the first six days of its release and has become the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2023. Gadar 2 collected a total India net of ₹40.10 crore on its opening day.
Three cast members of Gadar 2 visited their homeplace – Mira Road and were glad to be among their people. Utkarsh Sharma along with Manish Wadhwa (a former Bhayander resident), and Simrat Kaur (also a Mira Road resident) was present at a movie theatre in Mira Road and thereafter had dinner at Seven Eleven Club, Mira Road. They both shared stories about their struggle and how they succeeded in life. Simrat Kaur who played the role of Muskaan in the film, happily shared that Maxus Mall is the theatre where for the first time, she watched the movie ‘Chak De India’ in 2007. Manish conveyed his gratitude towards Narendra Mehta who was also present there for helping him during his early years in the industry.
Providing you with a synopsis of the movie Gadar 2: Year 1971, Tara Singh (Sunny Deol goes missing amidst a border combat and is presumed to be held captive in Pakistan. Tara's son Charanjeet ‘Jeete’ Singh (Utkarsh Sharma) goes to save him, but apparently, Tara is not in Pakistan. Unfortunately, Charanjeet gets imprisoned and tortured by the Pakistani soldiers under the command of Major General Hamid Iqbal. The General is keen on vengeance as Tara had killed 40 of his men during Tara’s escape (alongside wife & son) from Pakistan in 1954. When Tara learns the truth from Sakeena after reuniting, he is on a mission to save his son from the General and his men.
Utkarsh Sharma began his acting career as a child actor in Gadar released in 2001. In the sequel, he plays the same character who has matured into a youngster. Utkarsh feels glad that once again he got the opportunity to share screen space with respectable and fine actor Sunny Deol. “There is a long journey ahead for me and I’ve got to learn a lot from these established actors.
The main antagonist of the film, Major General Hamid Iqbal played by Manish Wadhwa was glad to be a part of Gadar 2 and play a villainous character. For the unknown, Manish also played the villainous role of Pakistan Army official General Qadir in 'Pathaan' earlier this year. He said, “God is kind. I am happy and blessed. This year both the films (Pathaan and Gadar 2) that I was part of did really well.”
Manish added, “People want entertainment, which people have been saying till now. It's about cinema, even today people say entertainment, entertainment, entertainment. So, I think 'Gadar 2' is a complete entertainment and a blockbuster. You feel everything, emotion, action, drama, romance, everything. So, it's a complete package.”
