Government seeks applicants for Information Commissioners In CIC
The post of Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC) is vacant, and the Centre has sought applications from eligible candidates to fill this position. CIC is headed by the Central Information Commissioner and can have a maximum of 10 Information Commissioners. Chief Information Commissioner Bimal Julka's term ends in September.
An order issued by the Union Personnel Ministry said individuals who are 65 years of age are not eligible for appointment. It is proposed to appoint Information Commissioners, not exceeding six, as may be deemed necessary in the Central Information Commission. Persons who fulfil the criteria and are interested in the post of Information Commissioner may send their particulars in a prescribed proforma up to 5 PM, January 12, 2023.
“Persons who are serving under the state/central government or any other organisation should send their particulars through proper channel (administrative/department/state/UTs) only before the due date.”
The Ministry said in the orders seeking applications, "They shall not be a Member of Parliament or Member of the Legislature of any State or Union Territory, or hold any other office of profit or connected with any political party or carrying on any business or pursuing any profession.
The Right to Information (RTI) Act provides that the Information Commissioner should be a person of importance in public life who has deep knowledge and experience in law, science, technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media, or administration and governance.
