India and Maldives delegates meet for defence cooperation
Indian and Maldives Defence Ministers, Rajnath Singh and Mariya Didi met to talk about how to enhance and strengthen the peaceful cooperation between both countries. As per press statement released by Defence Ministry, the leaders spoke on global and regional security issues and decided to cooperatively provide support in defence and security matters.
Singh visited Maldives and met Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid. Along with Mariya Didi, they attended commissioning ceremony of the Huravee replacement ship. They laid the foundation stone for the MNDF Coast Guard’s Ekatha Harbour. The political leaders agreed to strengthen the partnership between India and Maldives for enhanced security and prosperity.
Both delegates of nations expressed commitment to maintaining peace, stability and security. They acknowledged the need to work together for shared security challenges. Also, the value of international law and order was emphasised and how both countries should uphold it.
The ministers are focused and understand the importance of sharing expertise in counterterrorism, disaster management, cyber security, and maritime security. The political leaders discussed exploring avenues for cooperation, such as defence trade, capacity building, and joint exercises.
