L & T will construct the ambitious Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has selected Larsen and Toubro (L&T) as the agency that will undertake the construction of Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road (DBLR). This will be the civic body's final phase of its coastal road project. DBLR will connect Dahisar in the northern suburbs to the town of Bhayander through various arterial roads and tunnels.
The project tender was floated in October 2022 and about nine companies submitted their bids to the BMC. Out of these companies, three were shortlisted, namely: J Kumar Infraprojects Limited, Larsen and Toubro and Afcons Infrastructure Limited. Ultimately, L&T was chosen for this ambitious project. Interestingly, L&T is the same agency that worked on the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP), which will be opened by year-end connecting Marine Drive with the Bandra Worli Sea Link.
A BMC official said that L&T will be responsible for construction as well as obtaining environmental clearances. The construction works are likely to begin after the monsoon season. The Dahisar-Bhayander Link Road will be 5.6 kilometres long and is estimated at the cost of Rs 3,186 crore. Out of this 5.6 km stretch, 1.5 km comes under the BMC jurisdiction and 4.1 km falls under the jurisdiction of Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC). The elevated bridge will be 45 meters wide and will be built on stilts and will have 4x4 lanes for a smooth flow of traffic.
BMC is the executing agency of DBLR and their main purpose of creating this route is to clear out the daily traffic movement at Dahisar Check Naka from where vehicles pass towards Vasai, Virar, Palghar, Gujarat and northwards to Delhi via Western Express Highway which further extends as National Highway-48. A civic official added an emergency lane for the passage of vehicles like ambulances and fire-brigade engines will also be constructed on both sides.
