OMG 2 Review: A film that has the right mix of everything
Everyone surely remembers OMG movie starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar in lead roles for its unique social message. OMG was released in September 2012 and received significant acclaim. OMG 2 is a sequel to Oh My God! and had a theatrical release on 11th August 2023.
The film gives out a strong message without compromising on its entertainment quality. Amit Rai's 'OMG 2' is riding high on Akshay Kumar's splendid performance and the sensitive subject of sex education. In this movie, Pankaj Tripathi plays the character of Kanti Mudgal (shop owner), who is a staunch Lord Shiv devotee and runs a pooja shop near the temple. His adolescent son gets embroiled in an MMS controversy in which he is caught masturbating in his school toilet.
This incident wreaks havoc in Kanti and his family life. Vivek (Kanti's son) is rusticated from school on grounds of obscene and vulgar conduct after the video goes viral. The young boy gets admitted to the hospital due to exhaustion caused by excessive masturbation. Akshay Kumar, who plays a Shiv devotee, intervenes with divine intention to help Kanti fight a court case and redeem his son's self-respect.
Due to the social stigma Kanti decides to flee with his family but Akshay enters his life and guides him to fight for his son's respect. Kanti realises that his son was a victim of misinformation and misguidance, and is angered with the school authorities. He drags the school management, sex therapists, a doctor and a chemist who influenced Vivek about his sexual desires.
India is known to be the land of Kamasutra, so why do Indian parents and teachers hesitate to talk about sex openly with kids? Why is sex education in schools still taboo in a country obsessed with porn and sex? OMG 2 presents these questions with a pleasant dose of humour and keeps it highly entertaining. Director-writer Amit Rai has touched upon the subject of sex education without making it sound frivolous or vulgar.
OMG 2' has the right blend of humour with fantastic acting by a solid ensemble cast of Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam and Aarush Verma. Amit Rai's sharp writing and dialogues are on point and all the characters in the movie have performed exceptionally well. The film's pace and tempo does not lose momentum despite dealing with the sensitive topic of sex education. Yami Gautam totally nailed it with the opposing lawyer character that is defending the school. The entire cast has done a great job and the movie is definitely worth watching. Overall, 'OMG 2' is a film that has the right mix of everything. It has an entertainment element with a valid message.
