Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty gain career-best world no. 2 ranking after Korea Open win
India's top men's doubles Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy achieved their career-best second spot in the latest BWF rankings. The duo gained this place after defeating the Chinese pair of Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang in the Korea Open semifinal.
In this season, Asian Champions Satwik and Chirag won the Korea Open (Super 500), Swiss Open (Super 300) and Indonesia Open (Super 1000) titles and now stand at 87,211 points. In the Korea Open Finale, they played and defeated world number one players Fajar Alfian and Muhamad Rian Ardianto.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy congratulated badminton players Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty for winning the Korean Open badminton doubles championship. Rankireddy and Shetty vanquished the world's number-one pair from Indonesia in the final at Jinnam Stadium in Yeosu, South Korea. The two players, Rankireddy and Shetty, should continue the winning streak in future tournaments as well, said the Chief Minister.
Meanwhile, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal has dropped a spot to 37. HS Prannoy is India's top-ranked shuttler who is at the 10th spot in the men's singles rankings, led by Denmark's Victor Axelsen. Canada Open winner Lakshya Sen has dropped a place to world number 13 after missing the Korea Open. Kidambi Srikanth has been struggling with form and remains on the 20th. Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu made an early exit from the Korea Open and managed to hold on to her 17th spot in the singles list.
