Team India enters sub-100 FIFA ranking for the first time since 2018
The Indian football men's team entered the sub-100 FIFA ranking for the first time since 2018 as they moved one spot higher after SAFF Championship win. In July, team India defeated two strong contenders - Lebanon and Kuwait in the penalty shoot-out in the semi-final and final respectively in the SAFF Championship in Bangalore.
The best FIFA ranking for India was 94th which they achieved in 1996. They attained the 99th spot in 1993 and 96th in 2017 and 2018. World champions Argentina continue to reign at the top, followed by France, Brazil, England and Belgium.
Lebanon gained two spots just below India at the 100th spot whereas Kuwait rose four places up to be at 137th in the latest FIFA chart issued. West Asian countries Lebanon and Kuwait were invited to the SAFF Championships to ensure intense competition in the tournament.
India now has 1208.69 points.
