Tug of war for Mira Bhayander MLA seat. Mira Bhayandar, situated close to Mumbai but within Thane District, has its own distinct political history. In terms of the Legislative Assembly, the area is divided into two parts: 145 Mira Bhayander and 146 Ovala Majiwada. The Ovala Majiwada assembly constituency is led by three-time sitting MLA Pratap Sarnaik, who belongs to the Chief Minister Eknath Shinde faction. On the other hand, the Mira Bhayandar seat has not had a consistent MLA over the past few decades. It started with Gilbert Mendonsa from 2009 to 2014, then Narendra Mehta from 2014 to 2019, and currently, the sitting MLA is Geeta Jain, who has been in office since 2019 and will serve until 2024. The upcoming MLA election for the 146 Ovala Majiwada constituency is not expected to see any major competitors, but the 145 Mira Bhayandar seat has become a prestige issue for many political players. The key contenders include the sitting MLA Geeta Jain, who independently defeated Narendra Mehta of the BJP, and Mehta himself, who is well-prepared to seek revenge. Additionally, former MLC Muzaffar Hussain, who garnered around 55,000 votes in 2019, is back in the race after the Lok Sabha election, as the Maha Vikas Aghadi has gained momentum in the city. Apart from these established players, new faces, such as Ravi Vyas from the BJP and Vikram Pratap Singh from the Shiv Sena Eknath Shinde Group, are also planning to contest the upcoming MLA election in the 145 Mira Bhayandar constituency. Our readers are invited to share their views on who they believe is the most suitable candidate to represent the 145 Mira Bhayandar assembly seat.
